actually i managed to save yahtzee time: just remember that it’s exactly 2 minutes and 15 seconds behind time.gov for this timezone.

also, i just finished that @#%$ hard thermo problem and it took 6 pages.  Success!!!

shit.

this just in: my watch just gave out (been running weak for a while, so I guess it was inevitable)

there goes yahtzee time *sniff*

well, maybe i’m in the mood for one now.  Let’s give it a go…

Stanford is great.  no surprise.  The people here are terrifically fantasticmagorically awesome.  Which is surprising in a way, but not entirely so.
Is this place going to change me?  maybe.  But if it does, the change won’t be as drastic as the one during high school.  Or I hope it isn’t.  I do like the person I am now, for the most part (oh, healthy narcissism…).  Then again, I might have said the same thing five years ago.  So we can never know, and we can never be sure.  Amazing, isn’t it?  We make the decisions which determine whether we hang on to who we are, or instead embrace something new, and we have no real idea what comes out of it in the long run.  Yet, so far, it’s led to…well, me!  Incredible.

Or maybe, since I’m such a “strong” person, and moreover, such a “self-contained complete” individual (mushy terminology there), the change really won’t be so much anymore.  I wouldn’t be opposed to that.

Then again, any and almost all of the change has come from within.  While there -are- a few notable exceptions (some of them actually quite vital to the way “being Timm[ie]” turned out), what I did as section leader was all me–all me.  And if anything, that was the defining experience of high school.  Which might confuse some people because you might think that being drum major would be the defining experience.  Alas, that’s not the case at all!  And here, we already see it happening–the change that DM brought is less, because the change that being SL brought was so, so much more!  And it was all me.  all me.

It’s a bit tragic–now that I’ve come here, no one really knows my story.  No one was there for Shostakovich when I went through that magical metamorphosis from Timmy to Timm[ie]…and no one was there for ELP when I was…er…cool like that.  And no one was even part of the Firebird marching band, with all of its quirks and stories.  And hardly anyone even knows what it’s like to perform on the field–the music, the energy, and the emotion.

It’s a shame, but it’s not like it’s all been lost forever.  On the contrary, the friendships are all still here.

Or, I guess that’s not actually true.  Friendships are fragile things, though they don’t break so much as they whittle away in bits and pieces.  Still, you should never underestimate how possible it is to revive something which you may have thought was gone.

More importantly, the memories are all still here.  It’s kind of funny since I always choose to put the present in focus and slide the past and the future to another perspective, yet the memories are something i still treasure so much.

I suppose eventually the memories may disappear too.  Which seems quite tragic, but it’s not actually that terrible if you stop and think about it.  So what’s left?  If my character has changed (albeit only slightly since becoming Timm[ie]), and the friendships have faded, and the memories have grown foggy, what is there of that so-called “golden-age”?  The era of “suck dirt”, “yahtzee time”, being louder than the rest of the entire section, walking to school in the night, paying my respects to the field, marching snare and kicking ass, and screaming the hell of out my lungs at football games…

nothing will be left.  And again, that does seem sad…

but not if you’re me.  If you’re me, then you just smile, because it isn’t sad at all.

(~600 words.  a good length.  I used to use 1000 as my benchmark point but looking at things now that might be a bit ridiculous to do at present)
